Jvanna L. Hanks II is the Deputy Superintendent of Gallup-McKinley County Schools, bringing more than 22 years of progressively responsible public-school leadership to one of New Mexico’s largest and most culturally diverse districts.
Since joining GMCS in 2002, she has advanced from entry-level business office roles to executive leadership, integrating fiscal strategy with instructional priorities to strengthen learning environments for all students.
A recognized advocate for equitable school finance, Hanks played a key role in legislative and legal efforts that corrected Impact Aid crediting and helped secure increased funding statewide through the Yazzie/Martinez education case.
Her work has expanded resources for at-risk students and supported initiatives such as College, Career, and Civic Readiness and early-college pathways.
Hanks holds a Master of Public Administration and a summa cum laude bachelor’s degree from the University of New Mexico. She serves in statewide leadership with the New Mexico Association of School Business Officials, including her current term as President.
